It was sometime in January 2020. I was sitting at the desk in my apartment in Prague, watching on my laptop the live stream from London of the announcement of the decision to withdraw the United Kingdom from the European Union.

I’m not British, but I could understand the decision of voters in the UK. Some things that are initially made for predominantly emotional reasons turn out to be the best decision in retrospect. Every marriage should be like this. Well, the marriage between Great Britain and the European Union ended in divorce that evening.
